Forensic Science: (7426)
Prerequisite: Any Biology meeting the graduation requirement and a physical
science. Chemistry I recommended. Open to grades 10-12, 1 term, 1 credit.
Fee:$10.
The Forensic Science Elective Core focuses on the analysis of evidence
collection, the decomposition process, crime scenes, skeletal remains,
toxicology, and document validity. Case studies and crime scenarios help
students understand the implications and complicated issues that are emerging
as the science of forensics continues to develop. This course will satisfy
the requirements for the Advanced Diploma or the Honors Diploma.
Music Theory: (7910)
Prerequisite: Advanced Music Reading Skills and/or Performance in Instrumental
or Vocal Music. Open to grades 11-12, 1 term, 1 credit (1st semester only).
Fee: $30.
This course introduces the fundamentals of music theory, including music
notation, scales and interval chords, keys, rhythm and other musical basics.
Elements of harmony are also included, as is some ear-training. We will
also look at form in music with examples from the baroque, classical and
romantic literature.
Prep Peer Tutoring: (8110)
Prerequisite: Passed ALL SECTIONS of the AHSGE, counselor and/or teacher
recommendation (file application), students must take on-line course before
they will be placed in a classroom. Open to grades 11-12, 1 term, 1 credit.
Students enrolled in this class will provide peer tutoring assistance
to Prep Assistance, Algebra IA, IB, Geometry Concepts 1, 2 and study skills
classes. Prep peer tutors will be scheduled for no more than 1 class period
and will be responsible for duties designated by the classroom teacher.
Technology Assistant: (72000)
Prerequisite: Approval of teacher and assistant principal for curriculum.
Open to grades 11-12, 1 term, 1 credit. Fee: $5.00 Students selected for
this course will be required to perform duties necessary to the smooth
operation of the computer classroom.
Senior Project: (6035)
Prerequisite: Approval of Gifted Program teacher and Principal. Open to
Grade 12 only. 1 term/1 credit
Students participating into his course will complete a four-phase Senior
Project. The Senior Project integrates critical thinking, research, application
of that research to real-life situations, and advanced communications
skills into a project that reflects students’ thirteen years of
learning. Students generate a proposal for research, thoroughly investigate
a topic of interest, complete a project related to his/her research, and
then present their composite experience to a review panel. Students are
free to select their own topic, but all topics must have prior approval.
Mock Trial and the Justice System: (6031)
Prerequisite: Approval of Gifted Program teacher and Principal. Open to
grades 10-12 only. 1 term/1 credit

Writing for Publication: (6023)
Prerequisite: No approval needed if identified as Gifted. If not, see
Gifted Teacher for approval. Open to grades 10-12. May be taken more than
once for a credit.
Students in this class will gain experience writing poems, short stories,
and plays. Emphasis is on learning craft and on revising.
Scriptwriting: (6026)
Prerequisite: No approval needed if Approval of Gifted Program teacher.
Open to grades 10-12. May be taken more than once for a credit.
In this course students will write scripts in different genres, such as
drama, action/adventure, detective, and comedy. Then students will choose
several of the scripts written during the term and turn them into films.
The emphasis is on learning elements of craft and on revision.
Bible as/in Literature: (7190)
Grades 11-12, 1 term/1 credit
This class is a literature elective focusing on the Bible as a literary
text. Students will study the Bible AS literature and the Bible IN literature.
A primary goal is basic biblical literacy, a grasp of the language, ancient
culture, major narratives, symbols, and characters of the Bible. This
course also explores the influence of the Bible in classic contemporary
poems, plays, and novels, as well as the impact of the bible on modern
day cultures.
ACT/SAT Prep: (8200)
Grades 11-12, 1 term 1 credit.
This course is designed to prepare juniors and seniors for success on
the SAT and the ACT. The course includes classroom lessons, skill reviews
and exercises, and practice tests. Not only should students do well on
standardized assessments, their all-around academic performance should
improve after completing this course. Students will also receive instruction
in preparing and submitting college applications, managing test anxiety,
managing their time, and maximizing their performance on test day.
World Geography: (7225)
Grades 9-12, 1 term/1 credit.
World Geography is divided into two components: Physical and Human. Five
essential geographic skills presented in the national geography standards
are included in this course: asking geographic questions; acquiring geographic
information, organizing geographic information; analyzing geographic information;
answering geographic questions.
Introduction to Information Technology: (150400)
Grades 9-12, 1 term/1 credit. $20.00 fee
This class provides students with basic knowledge and skills regarding
information technology careers, computer hardware, personal computer operating
systems, networking, internet research, basic troubleshooting, interactive
media and safety. Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on
experiences.
IT Fundamentals/A+ Certification: (150401)
Prerequisites: Introduction to Information Technology. Grades 10-12, 1
term/1 credit, $20.00 fee
IT Fundamentals will provide students with knowledge and skills regarding
the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested
best practices in maintenance and safety issues. Students will assemble
and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and
troubleshoot hardware and software problems. Topics also include networking
basics. This is a preparatory course for the A+ certification examination.
A strong emphasis is placed on proper safety practices and industry ethics.
Server Fundamentals/Network +: (150402)
Prerequisites: Introduction to Information Technology and IT Fundamentals.
Grades 11-12, $20.00 fee
Server Fundamentals offers an intensive introduction to multi-user, multitasking
network operating systems. Characteristics of various network operating
systems will be discussed. Students will explore a variety of topics including
installation procedures, security issues, back up procedures and remote
access. This is a preparatory course for the Server + certification examination.
This course includes hands-on labs that utilize various operating systems.
Aviation Technology: (7740)
Prerequisite: 2.5 GPA, Excellent attendance record, Admission to Enterprise-Ozark
Community College, Completed Transportation Agreement. Grades 11-12. $340.00
fee.
Aviation Technology is a duel enrollment class offered to Daphne High
School students through Enterprise-Ozark Community College located at
their Brookley Field Campus. The purpose is to offer students a basic
foundation in airframe maintenance through 4 courses scheduled over a
2 year period. Students attend classes at Daphne High School approximately
2 days per week for classroom work and attend classes at the Brookley
Field Campus for practical applications. Students are responsible for
providing transportation to the Brookley campus. The four courses are
AMT 100-Technical Preparation, AMT 102-Materials and Processes, AMT 111-Aircraft
Sheet metal Structures and AMT 113-Airframe Systems II. For complete description
